Been there, done that... my first move was panic-googling "sink demon possession" at 2 AM. Turns out, calling a plumber next morning was cheaper than my DIY attempts. Hang in there, you're not alone in plumbing cluelessness.
I’d stop using the sink and keep anyone from adding more water to it. If the backup stays contained, I’d leave it alone and arrange help in the morning, much like dukelewis487 suggests. If it’s actively overflowing or spreading, I’d seek urgent help rather than wait overnight, and avoid touching the dirty water.
