Bathroom sink stopper only lifts partway
If a bathroom sink pop-up stopper lifts too little or won’t stay raised, how do you tell whether the linkage just needs repositioning or a part is worn or mismatched?
I’m curious how the lift rod, clevis strap, and pivot rod positions affect the stopper’s travel. If the stopper moves freely by hand but not when linked up, is that a useful clue? What signs on the linkage itself, such as bending or corrosion, mean it’s time to take it apart further rather than keep adjusting it?

The lift rod’s clevis hole and the pivot rod’s connection point set the linkage’s leverage and travel; moving either can change how far the stopper rises. If the stopper moves freely by hand but not through the linkage, that points toward poor alignment, limited linkage travel, or a loose connection. Bent rods, badly corroded metal, a sloppy pivot joint, or parts that don’t fit together properly suggest replacement rather than endless adjustment.
