Pop-up or grid drain for a bathroom sink?
A pop-up drain lets you close the basin with a lift rod or push button; a grid drain has no stopper mechanism to operate. The trade-off seems simple, but the sink’s overflow design and how you use the basin could rule out a style.
Does the basin have an overflow opening? What compatibility details should be checked before choosing a drain, beyond matching its finish and size? I’d also be interested in how much maintenance the pop-up mechanism tends to add compared with a grid drain.

The overflow setup needs to match: a basin with an overflow generally needs a drain with overflow openings, while a basin without one needs the corresponding non-overflow drain. I’d check the sink and drain specifications for that match, the drain’s fitting dimensions, and whether its stopper or lift-rod arrangement will work with the basin. That can rule out an otherwise attractive finish before purchase.
