plumbing hacks everyone should know before disaster strikes
I just learned something kinda cool the other day - did you guys know that wrapping plumber's tape clockwise around pipe threads actually helps prevent leaks? I mean, I always just wrapped it randomly, never thought direction mattered much, but apparently it does. Little things like that can save a ton of headaches later on. Wondering if there's other small plumbing tricks or trivia people have stumbled across by accident...

- Interesting point, but honestly, I've stopped using plumber's tape altogether. Switched to pipe dope instead - less waste and seems more reliable. Anyone else tried it or am I alone on this...?
Neither is universally better: tape and pipe dope suit different threaded connections, so I’d follow the fitting or sealant manufacturer’s instructions rather than assume one replaces the other. Dope may feel less wasteful for you, but the connection type is what would guide my choice.
A simple habit I like is putting a small bucket and towel under a connection before loosening it - even if you expect it to be nearly empty. It’s an easy bit of cleanup insurance for a quick repair.
