Where a simple greywater diverter stops being enough

For seasonal irrigation, how do you decide whether a basic greywater diverter is adequate or whether treatment is worth considering? I’m curious how much the answer depends on where the water goes: untreated greywater might be suitable for some subsurface irrigation setups but not every watering method, and rules can differ by location.

What’s a practical way to handle the off-season, when irrigation isn’t active? I’d especially like to understand which local requirements determine whether treatment or a bypass is needed, rather than assuming a simple diversion is permitted.
