What should a greywater maintenance quote actually include?

A quote for a greywater service visit can be hard to compare if one price covers routine maintenance and another is just the callout. What tasks should be spelled out so it’s clear what’s included?

I’d want to know whether the visit covers filter and pump checks, inspection of any diversion or treatment components, and a test of the reuse outlet. But systems vary, so should the quote identify the actual components and maintenance tasks for that setup rather than promise a standard checklist?

It’d also help to know how parts, difficult access, and repairs beyond routine maintenance are priced. Do service providers usually give an estimate before doing extra work, or is that something worth confirming when booking?

I’d favor a system-specific list of routine tasks, with the callout fee shown separately. For example, it could name the filter and pump checks that apply, any diversion or treatment components inspected, and whether the reuse outlet is tested. I’d also confirm how parts, access issues, and repairs are charged, and ask that any work outside the quoted scope be estimated and approved before proceeding.

Could a system-specific scope still make two quotes easy to compare if each names the same basics - what routine tasks are included, which components they apply to, and what is excluded - without requiring identical checklists? That seems like a useful middle ground: comparable boundaries, but no promise to inspect parts a particular system doesn’t have.

A quote could use the same headings for each system - routine tasks, components covered, exclusions, the callout fee, and charges for anything beyond routine work - then fill in only what applies. That would make it easier to scan where two scopes differ without implying that every system needs the same checks.
