I used to just ignore my heater until it started making weird noises or blowing cold air, but last winter I actually tried cleaning the filter every couple months. Not gonna lie, I was kinda shocked at how much dust and gunk came out. The thing ran quieter and seemed to heat up faster after that. Maybe it’s just in my head, but my energy bill dropped a bit too (could be coincidence though, who knows). I’ve heard some people say you should get a pro to check it once a year, but I’ve never bothered with that. Is it really worth it? Or is just keeping the filter clean enough for most folks? Curious if anyone else noticed a difference after doing some basic maintenance, or if I’m just imagining things.

I hear you on the musty smell—had that happen after I left a reusable filter damp for just a day too long. Ended up with a weird odor in the whole house and had to scrub out the vent. Honestly, I’m all for being eco-friendly, but if there’s even a small chance of mold, I’d rather play it safe and swap in a disposable. Breathing issues aren’t worth it. Regular cleaning is key, but sometimes convenience wins out, especially when it comes to air quality.
