RE: Low flow and cloudy water: screen, sediment trap, or tank cleaning?
cfurry45’s point about pump-strainer debris makes me wonder about a different source of the recent change: could roof-wash debris be getting past or around the inlet screen, especially after heavier debris loads? Is ther...
RE: KEEPING THE HEAT ON: DOES REGULAR FILTER CLEANING REALLY MATTER?
I hear you on the musty smell - had that happen after I left a reusable filter damp for just a day too long. Ended up with a weird odor in the whole house and had to scrub out the vent. Honestly, I’m all for being eco-fr...
RE: Rainwater toilets and greywater showers: City tries new water-saving tricks
I get where you’re coming from - there’s a lot of hype around these new systems, but not enough talk about what happens to old plumbing. In my last apartment (built in the 60s), they retrofitted for greywater use and wit...
RE: Under Sink Hookup vs. Dedicated Drain Line: Which Is Better for Dishwashers?
I hear you on the air gap hassle, but I’ve actually had a different experience. Had a dishwasher back up once and flood the cabinet because the high loop wasn’t enough - turns out a slow drain can sneak up on you. Ever s...
RE: Kitchen sink disaster - DIY or call a plumber?
Honestly, I’m with you on being wary of push-to-connects for anything hidden. They’re super tempting when you’re in a rush or staring down a midnight leak, but I’ve seen too many “quick fixes” turn into soggy nightmares....
RE: When is it time to swap out old pipes?
Honestly, waiting until you see rust or taste metal is rolling the dice a bit too much for me. I get wanting to stretch things out, but water damage can spiral so fast. I’d rather bite the bullet early than deal with mol...
RE: Plumbing pros weigh in: new app promises faster fixes and fewer headaches
I'm totally with you on being cautious about plumbing - I've learned the hard way that "simple fixes" can escalate quickly. A couple years back, I thought I'd swap out a leaky faucet cartridge myself (YouTube made it loo...
RE: why is documenting plumbing connections such a nightmare?
Zip ties with plastic tags aren't bad, but honestly, I've had a few snap off or become brittle over time, especially near hot water lines. If you're serious about durability and safety, metal tags stamped with numbers or...
RE: Eco-Friendly Ways to Keep Your Drains Clear and Fresh
Glad I'm not the only one who learned this the hard way. When we bought our fixer-upper, I was determined to stick strictly to eco-friendly methods. Baking soda and vinegar definitely help keep things fresh, but like you...
RE: thermostat acting weird, is it time to swap it out?
I've had mixed luck with those smart thermostats too. Last year ours started randomly resetting itself - middle of winter, of course. Woke up freezing twice before deciding enough was enough. Switched back to a basic pro...
