Washer loses water after filling, even when it isn’t draining

What observations help distinguish siphoning through the drain hose from a washer fault when water drains away after a fill? Does it happen while the washer is still filling, or only later in the cycle? That timing seems important, but I’m not sure what it tells you by itself.

For the drain setup, how much do the hose’s position in the standpipe and whether its end is submerged matter? I’d check the washer’s installation manual before changing the hose arrangement. What specific guidance there should I compare with the actual setup, and when would the observations point more toward appliance service than a drain-hose adjustment?

If water keeps disappearing while the washer is filling and the pump isn’t running, siphoning becomes more likely; loss only during a commanded drain is less suggestive of it. Compare hose height, how far it enters the standpipe, and whether its end is submerged with the installation manual’s limits. If the setup matches those limits but water still disappears when the pump isn’t draining, appliance service is a reasonable next step rather than more hose adjustment.
