What should an emergency shutoff-valve repair quote cover?

If a shutoff valve is leaking, how can I tell what an urgent repair quote actually includes before authorizing the work? The valve might be repairable, but it may need replacement once it’s inspected.

Should the quote separate the callout and diagnosis from an attempted repair, parts, labor, and any after-hours charge? I’d also want to know whether the price changes if repair isn’t possible and replacement is needed. What wording or questions have helped make that scope clear?

I’d ask for the callout or diagnostic fee and whether it still applies if no repair is done, then have the quote identify what the repair price includes - parts, labor, and any after-hours charge. For the replacement scenario, ask for its price or a clear approval step before that work begins. Getting those terms in writing makes it easier to compare the quote with the work you’re authorizing.
