Finally upgraded my sink setup and...mixed feelings

Haha, been there! Why do DIY instructions always skip the "prepare for minor flooding" step? Did you at least manage to reuse towels or something eco-friendly for cleanup?

I’d push back on treating minor flooding as a normal DIY-install step. Towels are useful backup, but most of that mess is preventable:

- Dry-fit the filter, adapter, and tubing first so you can spot alignment problems before water is involved.
- Shut off the supply and open the faucet to relieve pressure.
- Keep the supply off while checking every connection, then turn it back on slowly and watch for drips.
- Don’t overtighten plastic fittings. If a threaded joint still leaks, check the washer or thread compatibility instead of just adding force.

That approach makes the cleanup a fallback rather than part of the instructions.

Install guides should identify which connection is most likely to cause trouble: the cold-water shutoff adapter, filter housing, or faucet tubing. That makes it easier for future installers to check the relevant thread type and included washer before turning the water back on.
