Kitchen Water Filtration Systems

Carbon filter or RO: which is easier to keep running?
Discussion options
I’m comparing an under-sink carbon filter with a reverse-osmosis system, mainly for improving taste and reducing sediment rather than targeting a confirmed contaminant. The simpler carbon setup seems easier to maintain, but I’m unsure whether RO’s membrane care, wastewater, and slower flow become frustrating over time.
The cabinet has limited space, and I’d prefer not to add a dedicated faucet unless it’s necessary. For those who’ve compared both, which maintenance or troubleshooting issue matters most in practice: cartridge changes, membrane fouling, leaks, reduced flow, or unusual taste? Also, would you choose RO if testing showed a specific contaminant, or is carbon filtration usually the better fit for taste and sediment alone?
