That’s the thing with touchless taps—convenient until you’re stuck fiddling under the sink in a blackout. I’ve had to do a manual override during a storm once, and it felt like defusing a tiny bomb. Mine had this little plastic toggle that was nearly impossible to find by feel alone, especially with everything crammed under there.

About the cords, you’re right to be cautious. I always recommend using cable clips or even just some zip ties to keep things tidy and out of the way of cleaning supplies. It doesn’t take much for a cord to get snagged and then you’re dealing with more than just a dead faucet. Also, swapping batteries with wet hands is a no-go—I keep a towel stashed under the sink now, just in case.

Honestly, I wish these models came with clearer manual override instructions. Some are straightforward, others… not so much. If it feels finicky, it’s probably not just your unit. Manufacturers could make that part way easier for everyone.

I hear you on the manual override—mine’s got a weird little lever that’s almost impossible to grab if you’re in a rush. I’ve wondered if anyone’s tried labeling or marking theirs to make it easier to find in the dark? Also, has anyone had issues with the sensor acting up after a battery change? Mine sometimes needs a reset, which is a pain.

That tiny lever is the worst when your hands are wet or you’re half asleep. I stuck a bit of glow-in-the-dark tape on mine—looks tacky, but I can actually find it now. The sensor thing after battery changes drives me nuts too. Sometimes I have to pull the batteries and wait a few minutes before it’ll work right again... not sure why it’s so finicky, but it’s happened more than once.

That’s exactly why I’m still on the fence about these touchless taps. I get the appeal, but when something as basic as a battery swap turns into a guessing game, it feels like overengineering. I’ve had similar issues with motion lights—sometimes they just refuse to reset unless you leave them alone for ages. Have you tried using rechargeable batteries? I’m curious if that makes any difference with the sensor weirdness, or if it’s just the tech being finicky no matter what.

I’ve messed around with both regular and rechargeable batteries in my motion lights, and honestly, I haven’t noticed much difference in how the sensors behave. Sometimes I think it’s just the circuitry needing to fully discharge before it resets, regardless of what kind of battery you use. The tap in my kitchen is the same—after a battery swap, it’s like it needs a nap before it’ll wake up and cooperate. I wish these things had a proper hard reset button or something... would make life a lot easier.
