Touchless Taps: Worth the Hassle?
I get where you’re coming from with the touchless sensors—those things can be hit or miss. I’ve had to deal with a few in commercial bathrooms, and sometimes I wonder if they’re just designed to test your patience. Ever had one that only works if you wave your hand at exactly the right angle, like you’re casting a spell? I’ve had to troubleshoot a few for clients, and half the time it’s just a smudge on the sensor or a dying battery. Makes me wonder: is the convenience really worth it if you’re constantly fiddling with them?
On the flip side, I’ve seen some setups where touchless actually made sense—like in a hospital setting, where minimizing contact is huge. But for home use, I’m not convinced. Have you ever tried to fix a touchless faucet when the solenoid goes bad? It’s a pain, and replacement parts aren’t always easy to find. I’ve even had one where the sensor just flat-out refused to work after a power surge. Ended up swapping it for a manual lever too.
About the aerator swap—totally agree, that’s one of those “why didn’t I do this sooner” fixes. Quick, cheap, and you actually feel the difference in water flow. But I do wonder: do you notice any difference in splash with the 1.2 GPM? Sometimes I find lower-flow aerators can make the water shoot out at weird angles if the faucet isn’t designed for it. Or maybe that’s just me being picky.
Curious if anyone’s found a touchless model that actually works reliably at home. Or is it just one of those things that sounds better on paper than in real life?
