What should an installed composting-toilet quote include?

Installed cost seems hard to compare unless the scope is clear. Is the estimate for a self-contained composting toilet, or a central system serving a bathroom? The unit itself may be only part of the work; vent duct and fan, the electrical connection, and any changes to existing plumbing could all be priced differently.

For those who’ve reviewed or prepared quotes, how do installers usually handle uncertain access or additional work needed to meet applicable requirements? I’d want to know what’s included in the base price, what’s an allowance, and how extra work is approved and priced before it begins.

Installers may put uncertain access work in a clearly defined allowance, or exclude it until they can inspect the area; practices vary. For example, if a vent route might require opening a wall, the quote could state what access work the allowance covers and what it does not. Any work beyond that should be described and priced for approval before it begins, rather than treated as an open-ended extra.
