How much does composting-toilet duct layout affect fan choice?
A higher-capacity fan sounds like it might help with odor, but I’m not sure it’s the right fix if the duct run or its termination is restricting airflow. How much do duct length and bends typically affect the airflow a fan can actually deliver?
Since these fans often run continuously, how do you balance capacity against power use and noise? And if odor persists, what signs point to a blocked duct or poor seals rather than a fan that’s simply undersized?

Longer duct runs and sharper bends add resistance, so the fan may deliver less air than its headline rating suggests. How much depends on the fan’s performance against that resistance, as well as the duct size and termination - not just the number of bends. That’s why comparing a fan’s rated airflow alone can be misleading; a restrictive route can limit a more powerful fan too.
