RE: plumbing nightmare scenario - what would you do?
With water actively flooding the restaurant, I’d prioritize a confirmed response time and experience with commercial jobs over the lowest quote. A cheap option doesn’t help much if they can’t come soon or aren’t equipped...
RE: time to replace old pipes - copper or PEX?
If long-term confidence mattered more to me than easier routing, I’d lean toward copper for a whole-house replacement, while recognizing Jerry’s point that PEX can simplify runs through tight spaces. That’s a preference,...
RE: Keeping your water heater running longer without breaking the bank
Yeah, you nailed it about those “next weekend” jobs - suddenly it’s six months later and you’re dealing with a mess. I’d add, don’t forget to check the anode rod every couple years too. Most folks have no idea it’s even ...
RE: WHEN YOUR LAWN TURNS INTO A SWAMP AFTER EVERY RAINSTORM
I’ve worked with both, and honestly, gravel’s a pain but it does the job. Those plastic mats are lighter, but I’ve seen them clog up if you’ve got a lot of fine silt in your soil. Did you do any kind of perimeter drain o...
RE: When your bathroom sink ends up off-center
Yeah, offset traps can save your bacon in a pinch, especially if you’re just trying to get things up and running between tenants. I’ve had mixed results with flex lines too - sometimes they’re the only thing that’ll fit,...
RE: How do you spot hidden water leaks before they get worse?
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t just rely on smell or gut feeling. Sometimes leaks hide out for ages without any musty odor at all. I’ve seen pipes dripping behind walls for months - no smell, no...
RE: my shower's gone rogue and sprays everywhere but down
Yeah, those old-school metal heads were basically indestructible. I’ve pulled a few out that looked like they’d survived a war - still worked, just ugly as sin. Honestly, half the time when folks try to “fix” a leaky spr...
RE: Water pooling in basement - could it be a sneaky drain issue?
You’re not kidding about water finding the worst possible way through a house. I’ve seen it sneak along a joist for ten feet before finally dripping down, nowhere near where the leak started. Had one job where a pinhole ...
RE: When is it time to swap out old pipes?
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t think it’s always necessary to jump to a full replacement just because you spot some rust or minor pressure issues. Sometimes a good flush and targeted repairs can bu...
RE: Getting That Stubborn Dishwasher Working Again Without Calling a Repair Guy
You nailed it with that. I can’t count how many times folks have called me out thinking their dishwasher’s toast, and it’s just a nasty trap or a clogged hose. You’re on the right track with the vinegar too - simple stuf...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
Yeah, those fancy tags never last as long as you think they will. I’ve seen more than a few boiler rooms where the “official” labels are half-melted or just gone. Colored tape and a Sharpie gets the job done, and snappin...
RE: What if your street flooded because drains were clogged?
I’ve had to throw down sandbags a couple times when the city was slow to respond. Honestly, it’s a pain but it beats cleaning up a flooded basement. Tried the shovel trick once - worked okay, but only for smaller puddles...
RE: Kitchen sink disaster - DIY or call a plumber?
Couldn’t agree more here. Those push-to-connect fittings have their place, but old galvanized just isn’t one of them. I’ve seen way too many “quick fixes” come back to haunt folks, especially in older houses. If you’ve a...
RE: my shower's gone rogue and sprays everywhere but down
Good call on checking the washer first. I've seen people soak showerheads overnight, scrub 'em, and still end up with the same spraying mess because they overlooked that tiny rubber gasket. Honestly, half the time it's s...
RE: Sink monster making weird noises and not grinding right
Yeah, citrus peels are great for freshening things up, but moderation is definitely key. I've seen plenty of disposals jammed with orange peels or potato skins - those things turn into a gluey mess real quick. Had a cust...
