For an ordinary week, I’d keep grease out and run water during grinding and briefly afterward, as you suggest. I’d treat vinegar or citrus as optional odor freshening, not as the step that prevents a backup.

You nailed it - brushed nickel isn’t perfect, but it’s about as good as it gets for hiding the hard water mess without constant scrubbing. I tried oil-rubbed bronze once because it looked cool, but the fingerprints drove...
