RE: When your heater acts up: quick fixes that saved my winter
Man, I hear you on the urge to poke around before calling in the cavalry. Nine times outta ten, it’s something basic, like you said - a fuse, breaker, or just a thermostat that got bumped. But I’ve seen folks try to “fix...
RE: Handy shortcuts for finding plumbing info quick
Man, I hear that. One time I tried using an app to ID a fitting, and it told me it was a "garden hose adapter" when I was holding a brass compression sleeve. Not even close. I still end up wandering the aisles with that ...
RE: Handy shortcuts for finding plumbing info quick
That’s the story of my life. I once spent half a day tracing a hot water line that just... ended behind a closet. No cap, no sign it ever went anywhere. Sometimes I wonder if the folks before us just got bored and left t...
RE: What if your street flooded because drains were clogged?
Not gonna lie, I’ve been the “rake guy” more than once. It’s satisfying in the moment, but yeah, it’s a band-aid at best. Like you said, Couldn’t agree more there. I’ve seen people get creative - one neighbor tried usi...
RE: Drain upkeep tips after seeing that crazy news story
You’re not wrong about baking soda and vinegar - people swear by it, but in my experience, it’s more of a feel-good science experiment than a real fix for anything beyond a minor slow-down. Like you said, it’ll freshen u...
RE: Finally got my bathroom reno right for everyone to use comfortably

Yeah, rain barrels are great until they're empty halfway through a dry spell. Been there myself - ended up lugging buckets from the house tap, which kinda defeated the whole purpose. Greywater setups always sound good on...
RE: Cracked Sink Dilemma: DIY Kit or Professional Fix?
Gotta say, I get the frustration with DIY kits, but honestly, they're not always as bad as people make them out to be. Yeah, the instructions can be vague - no argument there - but a lot of times it's because they're try...
RE: do you pay attention to water-saving rules when fixing stuff at home?
I've installed and serviced plenty of softeners, and honestly, it's kind of a toss-up. Sure, softer water can extend appliance life and keep fixtures looking nicer longer - less buildup means fewer replacements. But the ...
RE: Finally got my bathroom reno right for everyone to use comfortably
Glad it's holding up for you, bamboo can be hit or miss in damp areas. Honestly, I've seen it warp badly in some bathrooms, even with sealers and ventilation. But sounds like you did everything right - especially the ven...
RE: anyone tried sustainable plumbing upgrades at home?
PEX is pretty decent, agreed, but I'm still not totally sold on the whole "eco-friendly" plumbing angle. Switched to low-flow showerheads last year - water bill dropped a bit, but honestly, showers just aren't the same a...
