I get what you're saying about drain screens being a temporary fix, but honestly, they're not all bad. The trick is placement and regular checks—especially before heavy rain hits. I usually do a quick check every few days when storms are forecasted. Takes me maybe five minutes tops—beats the heck out of standing knee-deep in water later. Still, you're right... nothing beats good old-fashioned rake cardio on a Saturday morning. At least your neighbor's kid gets free entertainment, lol.

Yeah, fair enough... drain screens can help if you're diligent. But honestly, I've seen tenants ignore way simpler stuff than that. You'd be amazed how many people think drains magically clear themselves.

Haha, yeah, you'd think drains had little elves living down there clearing stuff out every night. 😂

True, drain screens are handy...when people actually use them. I've seen friends who've had them sitting in a drawer for years because "they don't look nice" or "it's annoying to clean." Then they're shocked when they're ankle-deep after a storm. 🙄

Another quick tip I've found helpful—every once in a while, especially before heavy rain seasons, just pour boiling water mixed with baking soda and vinegar down the drains. Sounds silly, but it loosens up grease and debris buildup pretty effectively. Cheap and easy enough that even the most maintenance-averse folks can manage it (well, mostly).

Haha, I've tried the baking soda and vinegar trick too—works surprisingly well for something that feels like a middle-school science experiment. But honestly, the biggest issue on our street isn't even grease or hair...it's leaves. Every fall, it's like the trees conspire to clog every drain overnight. I've started just quickly sweeping around the drains before storms hit. Takes five minutes, saves me from wading through ankle-deep water later.

Sweeping beforehand definitely helps, but honestly, relying on neighbors to clear leaves regularly is hit-or-miss. Have you considered installing drain guards or leaf catchers? They're pretty straightforward to put in—just lift the grate, place the guard inside, and replace the grate securely. I've seen them reduce clogging significantly on my rental properties. Might be worth trying if you're tired of sweeping every time clouds roll in...
