"How did you guys confirm it was roots—did they have to run a camera down there or something?"
Yeah, usually they'll snake a camera down to check things out. Had a similar issue at a property last year—turned out to be minor buildup, not roots. Fingers crossed yours is nothing serious either...
Had a similar fiasco a couple years back—thought for sure it was roots because we have this massive oak tree nearby. Plumber ran the camera down, and guess what? Turned out my kid had flushed a toy dinosaur down there. Poor T-Rex never stood a chance... Anyway, camera inspection is definitely the way to go, saves you from guessing games and unnecessary digging. Hope yours is an easy fix!
Camera inspections are helpful, but they're not always foolproof. Had a client once whose inspection missed a cracked pipe because the camera couldn't navigate a tight bend... ended up digging anyway. Sometimes old-fashioned troubleshooting still has its place.
Had a similar issue recently—camera inspection showed nothing, but the toilet kept backing up. Ended up pulling the toilet and found roots sneaking in right at the flange. Sometimes you just gotta roll up your sleeves and go old-school detective mode... good luck!

Haha, couldn't agree more. Had a similar mystery clog last year—camera showed zilch, auger came back clean, but water kept rising ominously every flush. Finally got fed up, yanked the toilet off, and found a plastic toy dinosaur wedged perfectly in the trap. My nephew swore he had nothing to do with it... yeah right. Sometimes the high-tech tools just can't beat good ol' fashioned hands-on investigation. Hang in there, you'll figure it out eventually.
