Had a similar fiasco a couple years back - thought for sure it was roots because we have this massive oak tree nearby. Plumber ran the camera down, and guess what? Turned out my kid had flushed a toy dinosaur down there....

Haha, drain covers are a lifesaver, trust me. After the swamp scare, I installed them everywhere. But kids are like mini Houdinis - they'll find a way to sneak stuff past any barrier you set up... rubber duckies included...
