Where does recycled denim pipe insulation make sense?
Discussion options
Recycled denim sounds appealing, but I’m not sure how well it holds up around plumbing compared with fiberglass, especially where condensation or occasional dampness is possible. Does either material tolerate those conditions better, or is keeping the insulation dry and properly fitted the main issue?
I’m asking about insulation fitted around accessible pipes, not denim batts used in a wall cavity. What should guide the choice of facing or vapor control, and are there durability or installation details that make one option more practical? Recycled content matters, but it doesn’t settle the whole trade-off.

For cold-water lines, I’d put more weight on whether the outer facing can be sealed continuously than on the insulation material alone. Humid air can reach a cold pipe through gaps and condense under the insulation. If the seams and awkward fittings can’t be sealed well with a particular product, another system may be more practical.
