Keeping water out of the basement: what’s actually worked for you?

- Been in the trenches with this stuff for years.
- Honestly, exterior membranes are overkill for most houses unless you’ve got a serious groundwater issue or a really old foundation.
- I’ve seen folks spend a fortune and still get leaks because they ignored the basics—grading, gutters, downspouts.
- Did a job last fall where we just extended the downspouts and patched a couple cracks. Basement’s been bone dry since.
- Not saying membranes never help, but for most people, simple fixes do more than you’d think.
