I’d use the mop and bucket to contain the visible water, but I wouldn’t try to seal an unknown source with duct tape. If it kept coming or the water was spreading, I’d call for help rather than risk turning a temporary patch into a bigger problem.

One factor that would make me skip the mop-and-bucket approach is water near electrical equipment or outlets. I wouldn’t approach it to investigate or improvise; I’d get appropriate help instead. With no clue where the water is coming from, that risk changes the decision quickly.

I’d call sooner than waiting to see whether the water spreads if the source is still unknown. A mop and bucket can buy a little time to contain water, but I wouldn’t want that temporary step to delay finding out what’s feeding it.

Calling promptly and containing water don’t have to be competing choices: if it’s safe to reach the pooled water, a bucket could limit the mess while help is on the way. I’d make the call first, though, and wouldn’t approach the water if that meant going near a possible hazard.
