Particleboard in a bathroom is just a disaster waiting to happen—been there, regretted that.

Totally agree about the particleboard—it just soaks up water like a sponge. I’m curious though, when you’re checking for soft spots under an off-center sink, do you have a go-to method? I usually poke around with a screwdriver, but sometimes it feels like I’m missing hidden damage. Ever tried using a moisture meter, or is that overkill for a small vanity job?

I hear you on the screwdriver trick—it’s my default too, but I’ve definitely missed spots that looked fine on the surface. Once, I thought I was in the clear until my foot went through the floorboard a few months later... not fun. I actually picked up a cheap moisture meter last year after that mess. It’s probably overkill for a tiny vanity, but it did help me catch some dampness around the pipes I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. For me, peace of mind is worth the extra step, especially after dealing with soggy particleboard nightmares.
