Had this exact thing happen when I replaced our old vanity last year—the drain was just a bit off, maybe an inch or so. I tried to fudge it with the trap, but it always felt tight. Ended up getting one of those flexible tailpieces and it made a world of difference. Not the prettiest, but zero leaks since. If you notice any tension, it’s definitely worth taking a step back and reworking it instead of forcing things. Water doesn’t care about “close enough,” unfortunately...
