What would you do if your septic tank alarm went off while you’re on vacation?

If my septic alarm went off while I was out of town, I’d probably panic for a second, then remember that panicking doesn’t fix pipes. I get the whole “it’s probably just the float” thing, but man, the one time you ignore it is the time you come home to a swamp in your basement. I’d try to call a neighbor or a local service to swing by and check—preferably someone who knows the difference between a float and a full-blown disaster.

Remote monitoring is cool and all, but I’ve seen those sensors get all gunked up with who-knows-what. Once, my uncle’s alarm kept going off because a frog decided to make a home in there. Not even kidding. He got back from vacation and found a very confused amphibian and a very annoyed plumber.

Long story short, I’d rather pay for someone to check than risk coming home to a biohazard zone. Anyone else ever had something totally random set off their alarm?
