I read somewhere that those meds can mess with the bacteria in your tank, but then I see people say it just bounces back on its own.

Yeah, I’ve heard both sides too. Honestly, after my kid was on antibiotics for strep, I worried about the same thing. Didn’t end up buying any of those “booster” packets, and nothing exploded or started smelling weird... yet. I figure the tank’s got a whole ecosystem going, and it seems pretty resilient unless you’re dumping bleach or something hardcore all the time. Still, I’m with you—always a little nervous about messing things up long-term. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but better safe than sorry, right?

I’ve had tenants flush all sorts of stuff and the tank’s still chugging along, so I’m convinced those bacteria are tougher than we give ‘em credit for. Antibiotics might slow things down a bit, but unless you’re running a pharmacy out of your bathroom, it usually bounces back. I’d worry more about folks dumping paint or grease down the drain... that’s when things get ugly fast.

That’s honestly reassuring to hear. I’ve been low-key stressing about every little thing that goes down the drain, but maybe I’m overthinking it. Grease and paint, though—yeah, I’d never risk that. It just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

You’re not wrong about grease and paint—those are the big villains in the septic world. But honestly, stressing over every crumb or drop of soap is overkill. The system’s tougher than people think, but it’s not invincible. I’ve seen folks pour bacon grease down the sink for years and then wonder why their yard smells like a swamp... Trust your gut, but don’t lose sleep over the occasional mishap.

I hear you on the bacon grease—my neighbor had a horror story about that. I’m new to all this, so I’ve been super careful, maybe too careful? Like, is it really that bad if a little coffee ground slips down the drain now and then?
