"Maybe people just hate feeling guilty about turtles more than their wallets?"
Honestly, guilt-tripping with turtles never worked for me. I found explaining the actual mechanics of septic backupsβlike how wipes don't break down and clog the bafflesβgot people's attention quicker. Once they visualize the gory details, they seem to reconsider their flush habits pretty fast. Speaking of nightmares, anyone had issues with tree roots invading their septic lines? Had to deal with that last fall, and let's just say wipes aren't the only villains...
Had the same root issue a couple years backβtotal nightmare. Ended up using copper sulfate crystals down the line every few months. Way cheaper than calling out the pros each time, and haven't had trouble since...might be worth a shot.
Copper sulfate worked for me too, but heads upβdon't go crazy with it. Buddy of mine dumped a ton down his line thinking more was better...ended up killing off the good bacteria in his septic tank. Moderation's key.
Yeah, learned that lesson the hard way myself. Had a customer once who thought doubling the copper sulfate would clear things faster...ended up with a septic disaster instead. Moderation really is your friend here.
"Moderation really is your friend here."
Couldn't agree more. Learned this myself when I tried the DIY route on my septic tank last summer. Thought adding extra enzymes would speed things up and save me money... ended up clogging the system and calling in a pro anyway. Cost me double in the end. Lesson learned: follow instructions, don't get creative, and keep it simple.
