What does a sewer camera show better after root cutting?
Before roots are cut, can they hide a crack or separated joint well enough that the camera footage isn’t useful for choosing a repair? I’m curious what a post-cut inspection can reveal that the first pass can’t, especially about pipe deformation, open joints, or roots and debris still obstructing the line.
If the camera only shows the cleared interior, how much confidence can that give about the pipe’s condition and the risk of roots returning? What specific findings would help distinguish a line that may just need repeat cleaning from one that needs a longer-term repair?

Yes - dense roots or debris can obscure a crack or joint on the first pass, so cutting them may make those features easier to inspect. The cleared view can show visible deformation, gaps, or remaining obstruction, but it cannot prove the whole pipe is sound or guarantee roots won’t return. The entry point and condition of the joint help assess recurrence risk; visible structural damage would make repair worth discussing, while a clear, intact-looking pipe may support cleaning and monitoring.
