How do you decide when a sewer line needs root cutting again?

After roots have been mechanically cut from a sewer line, what’s a sensible way to decide when to have it checked or cut again if the entry point hasn’t been repaired? I’m wary of putting every line on the same calendar schedule, but waiting for a backup seems like a poor monitoring plan too.

How much would you let the time until roots returned and the pipe’s condition guide the interval? Are recurring symptoms a useful trigger, or are follow-up camera findings more informative before symptoms show up?
