Plastic barriers sound decent, but have you noticed any drainage issues since installing them? I'd worry about water pooling up, especially after heavy rains...

Haven't run into any major drainage headaches yet, honestly. If you angle the barrier slightly outward at the top, water usually finds its way around just fine. But yeah, definitely don't skip on gravel or drainage holes—learned that one the hard way a few years back...

Glad you mentioned this—I was actually wondering about drainage myself. As a first-time homeowner, I've been researching root barriers extensively (maybe a bit obsessively, haha), and drainage seems to be a common concern. From what I've gathered, proper installation really makes all the difference. Angling the barrier slightly outward at the top, like you suggested, seems logical since it directs water flow away naturally. Also, adding a layer of gravel at the base can significantly improve drainage and prevent pooling.

I haven't installed mine yet, but your experience gives me some confidence. It's reassuring to hear you haven't had major issues so far. Still, I'll probably keep an eye on things after heavy rains just to be safe... Better cautious than dealing with unexpected flooding later on. Thanks for sharing your insights—it's helpful to learn from others who've already tackled these projects.

Good call on checking after heavy rains—it's always smart to stay ahead of potential issues. I've seen root barriers hold up really well when installed properly, but you're right, drainage is key. Gravel at the base is a lifesaver for sure. One thing I'd add from experience: don't skimp on barrier depth either...roots can surprise you! Sounds like you're on the right track though, good luck with your project.

Yeah, barrier depth is definitely something I underestimated at first. Thought I'd done enough until I found roots sneaking under my driveway after just a year...lesson learned. Gravel drainage saved me too, but man, trees are relentless sometimes.
