What changes when a hose sprayer has a chemical dispenser?
Does an add-on hose vacuum breaker provide the required protection when a hose might be used with a sprayer or chemical-dosing attachment, or does that setup call for a different device?
I’d want to distinguish the faucet’s built-in backflow preventer, if it has one, from a hose-end vacuum breaker. Are their roles and compatibility determined by the specific device labels and local code? What should guide the choice when the hose may carry chemicals rather than plain water?

A faucet’s built-in backflow preventer and a hose-end vacuum breaker are separate devices, and one should not be assumed to substitute for the other. Check the exact device and attachment instructions for the hazard they cover; chemical dosing may require protection rated for that specific risk, not merely a basic hose breaker. The locally adopted code and amendments determine what is required, so confirm the setup with your local plumbing authority rather than relying on the device name alone.
