my heat pump install turned into a comedy of errors
So, last weekend I finally got around to having a heat pump installed at my place. Thought it'd be straightforward, you know, just a quick job and done. But nope, it turned into this whole saga. First off, the installers showed up late because they apparently got lost (even though I live in a pretty easy-to-find neighborhood). Then halfway through the install, one guy realizes they brought the wrong size brackets or something - had to run back to their warehouse.
After they finally finished and left, I noticed the unit was making this weird rattling noise every time it kicked on. Turns out they didn't secure something properly inside. Had to call them back again yesterday to fix it. Now I'm kinda paranoid about what else might've been missed or messed up.
Has anyone else had an installation go sideways like this? Wondering if it's just my luck or if this is more common than I thought...

This one install can’t tell you how common messy heat-pump jobs are. The late arrival and bracket mix-up point to disorganization, but don’t by themselves show poor workmanship; the rattling was a real issue, and its repair doesn’t establish whether anything else was missed. Without broader data, I wouldn’t read this as either proof that such problems are common or that it was just bad luck.
For anyone dealing with this after an install, it’s reasonable to ask the installer for a brief recap of what they secured and whether they noticed anything else while fixing the rattle. The bracket mix-up and repaired noise don’t, by themselves, show there’s another problem.
I’d find a clear explanation of what was loose more reassuring at first, because it makes the repair understandable; a stretch of quiet operation would then help confirm that the fix seems to have held. Either one alone would leave me with a bit more uncertainty.
