I've done the lemon peel thing too, and yeah, smells amazing for a day or so... but then mine started sounding like a grumpy old man clearing his throat. I think you're right about the peels—probably too tough long-term. Honestly, being a first-time homeowner myself, I've learned garbage disposals are mostly good at disposing my patience. Hang in there, sink monster battles happen to the best of us.

Haha, relatable... but I'd argue lemon peels aren't necessarily the culprit. I've found that ice cubes every now and then sharpen the blades and clear buildup. Might be worth a try before blaming the citrus?

Haha, garbage disposals really do test your patience...mine sounds like it's chewing gravel half the time. But yeah, ice cubes are a lifesaver—cheap fix too, which my wallet appreciates. Lemon peels haven't caused me issues either, but potato skins? Those things are pure evil. Hang in there, homeownership gets easier...or at least you get better at pretending you know what you're doing.

Haha, totally agree on the ice cubes. My disposal was sounding like a blender full of marbles last week, and ice cubes were the only thing keeping me sane. Potato skins though... learned that one the hard way myself. Had to fish them out by hand—grossest half-hour of my life.

Speaking of disposal nightmares, anyone ever accidentally drop something valuable down there? I nearly lost a spoon once, and now I'm paranoid every time I wash dishes. Do those disposal guards actually help or are they just another gimmick? I'm debating if it's worth grabbing one or if I'll just end up annoyed every time water drains slowly...

Yeah, ice cubes definitely saved me a few headaches too. My disposal was making this weird grinding noise—like it was chewing on gravel or something. Tossed in some ice cubes and it quieted down pretty quick. Still skeptical about those disposal guards though... I mean, they seem like a good idea in theory, but I tried one at my parents' place and it drove me nuts. Water drained so slow, and bits of food kept getting stuck on top. Ended up removing it after a week.

As for dropping stuff down there, I haven't lost anything valuable yet (knock on wood), but I did accidentally grind up a plastic measuring spoon once. Smelled awful and took forever to clean out all the tiny plastic bits. Now I'm extra careful when washing dishes—paranoid every time I hear something clink near the drain.
