Had a weird experience recently—noticed a faint musty smell in the laundry room, thought it was just damp clothes at first. But then I spotted some paint bubbling near the baseboard. Turns out, slow leaks or hidden moisture can show up as subtle signs like that. A friend tipped me off to using a flashlight at an angle on walls and ceilings to spot shadows from swelling drywall or paint. Pretty handy trick, actually. Curious if anyone else has little tricks or hacks for catching sneaky leaks early?

That's a solid tip—I've used that flashlight trick myself more times than I'd like to admit. Another sneaky one I've noticed is keeping an eye on your water meter. If you suspect something's up, turn off all your faucets and appliances, then check the meter. Wait 20-30 minutes and see if it's moved at all. Even a tiny leak can cause it to tick forward slightly.

Also, pay attention to your pets—they're surprisingly good leak detectors. My dog kept sniffing around the dishwasher once, and sure enough, there was a slow drip behind it. Saved me from a bigger headache later.

And speaking of smells...musty odors are definitely a red flag, but sometimes leaks give off weirdly sweet or earthy scents too (sounds odd, I know). Bottom line: trust your nose as much as your eyes.
