Best ways to get clean water in remote areas?

I've been thinking about doing some hiking trips in pretty remote areas, and I'm kinda worried about running out of clean drinking water. I've heard about filters, purification tablets, boiling...but what's actually practical and reliable out there?

Yeah, filters and purification tablets are fine, but honestly boiling has always been my go-to. Once had to boil water in a cooking pot meant for pasta - felt ridiculous, but hey, it worked and tasted surprisingly pasta-free.
