I hear you on the battery thing—having to keep a stash of AAAs just for the faucet feels a bit much. I tried a touchless in my mudroom and it was cool at first, but the sensor would randomly not pick up my hands, or worse, turn on when nobody was there. Ended up swapping it back for a regular lever. I guess unless you’re super into gadgets or have a real need for hands-free, the old-school stuff just works better in the long haul.
- Had the same debate with myself when we moved in—thought touchless would be all “welcome to the future,” but it just meant more stuff to troubleshoot.
- The batteries are a pain, but my main gripe was the sensor’s mood swings. Sometimes it acted like my hands were invisible.
- Honestly, I kinda miss the satisfying “clunk” of a regular handle. Plus, you never have to wonder if your faucet will randomly startle you at 2am...
- Guess I’m not quite ready for Jetsons-level plumbing yet. Maybe someday when they invent a faucet that makes coffee too.
Honestly, I’ve swapped out more touchless faucet batteries than I care to admit. Half the time, folks call me because the thing’s “possessed” and starts running at random. Give me a good old-fashioned handle any day—at least I know who’s in charge. If they ever make one that brews coffee, though, I’ll reconsider...

Yeah, those random activations drive people nuts. I always wonder—are you seeing more issues with certain brands or is it just a universal problem? Also, do you think hard water buildup messes with the sensors, or is it mostly battery-related?
- I’ve noticed the “possessed” faucet thing seems to happen more with the cheaper models, but even some of the big-name brands aren’t immune. Maybe it’s just the tech in general?
- Hard water definitely seems to mess with the sensors over time. I had to clean off a crusty buildup from mine last year and it started behaving again… for a while.
- Batteries are another story. When they’re low, my tap gets super twitchy—sometimes it won’t turn on at all, other times it just runs non-stop.
- I’m starting to wonder if humidity or even kitchen lighting messes with them too. Has anyone tried relocating the sensor or covering it temporarily to see if that helps?
- Also, does anyone actually prefer these touchless taps long-term, or do most folks end up switching back to manual? I’m on the fence about keeping mine.
