I’ve wondered the same thing about waterproof housings—seems like such an obvious upgrade, but here we are, still DIY-ing it with tape and creative mounting. I actually tried weatherstripping after a friend suggested it, and it’s held up better than silicone for me too. Silicone always looks neat at first, but then you get that weird peeling or it just gets grimy over time.

One thing I ran into was battery life being way shorter than expected, especially in the winter. I’m guessing the cold under the sink doesn’t help, but maybe moisture plays a part too? I started using lithium batteries instead of alkalines and that seemed to help a bit, but it’s still not great. Has anyone tried running a power supply instead of batteries? I keep thinking about drilling a tiny hole and running a cable, but then I worry about making things worse if there’s ever a leak.

Also, have you noticed some touchless taps are way more sensitive than others? Mine sometimes goes off if I just walk by, which is both hilarious and annoying when you’re carrying groceries. Not sure if it’s the sensor placement or just cheap electronics.

Curious if anyone’s found a brand that actually seems to “get” kitchen realities, or if we’re all just making do with workarounds.
