How should a dishwasher quote account for a tight cabinet opening?
A dishwasher replacement quote can look straightforward until the new unit doesn’t fit the existing opening. How do installers usually distinguish a like-for-like swap from extra labor for cabinet or trim changes, especially when the countertop limits clearance?
I’d want to know whether the quote assumes the replacement matches the existing unit’s dimensions, how any fit-related changes would be priced, and whether the installer would get approval before doing added work. What details make those assumptions clear enough to compare quotes fairly?

A like-for-like quote generally assumes the new dishwasher fits the existing opening and can use the existing connections without cabinet or trim changes. If countertop clearance or dimensions may require alterations, those should be listed as excluded or separately priced work, with the installer getting approval before proceeding. For example, a slightly taller replacement could turn a routine swap into added fit work if it cannot clear the countertop.
