how much should I expect to pay for a new dishwasher?

My dishwasher finally bit the dust yesterday - water everywhere, total mess. It's been acting up for months, but I kept hoping it'd magically fix itself (spoiler: it didn't). Anyway, now I'm stuck shopping around and prices are all over the place. Is it worth splurging on a high-end model or are budget dishwashers good enough these days? If anyone's replaced theirs recently, I'd love some input.

I replaced mine about six months ago after a similar disaster - came home to a mini lake in the kitchen. I went budget-friendly, not the absolute cheapest but definitely nowhere near high-end. Honestly, it's been totally fine. Cleans dishes well enough, quieter than my old one, and hasn't flooded my floor yet (fingers crossed). Unless you're really into fancy features or brand names, mid-range models seem to do the trick these days without breaking the bank.

A dependable mid-range dishwasher usually gives you better value than bargain models, with quieter operation, sturdier racks, and better leak protection, without paying mainly for premium finishes or app features. Budget models can clean well, but repairs and noise may erase the savings. I’d compare the full installed price, warranty, noise rating, and parts availability rather than the sticker price alone.
