why is documenting plumbing connections such a nightmare?

Haha, plumbing labeled with emojisβ€”that's golden. I feel your pain with blurry phone pics; been there, squinted at that. Sketches are underrated for sure, but I've also found painter's tape and a decent marker work wonders. Cheap, sticks well, and easy to peel off later. Just don't get carried away like me and slap labels everywhere... my basement looks like a crime scene investigation now.

Haha, that's exactly what happened to me when I first started apprenticing. My mentor was big on labeling, and I took it way too seriously. At one point, I had so many labels on pipes and valves that it looked like some kind of conspiracy theory boardβ€”strings and all.

Painter's tape is definitely a lifesaver, but I've also started snapping quick videos with commentary. It feels awkward at first (especially when someone walks in on you narrating pipe connections like you're hosting a plumbing documentary), but it helps a ton later when you're trying to remember why you routed something a certain way. Emojis though... that's next-level creativity. Might have to borrow that idea for the next confusing job, haha.

Haha, the crime scene analogy is spot-on. My basement isn't quite at conspiracy-board level yet, but it's getting there. I tried the video thing too, but honestly, half the time I end up filming my feet or mumbling something completely useless. Painter's tape is great, but I've been thinking about color-coding with eco-friendly markers or something... Has anyone tried that? Or am I just setting myself up for another labeling disaster?

I've messed around with markers before, and honestly, it turned into a blurry mess after a few months of basement humidity. Painter's tape still wins for me...though I've upgraded to different colors now, so at least my confusion is rainbow-themed.

Painter's tape, really? Seems like it'd peel off eventually or get grimy. I've been tempted by those plastic tags, but are they worth the hassle of attaching everywhere?
