I get what you mean about wall notes—my partner once wrote “hot” and “cold” above the pipes in our laundry room, then we painted over it a year later and now nobody remembers which is which. The sketchbook idea sounds smart, though I keep losing mine under piles of receipts... I’ve started snapping pics with my phone whenever I open up a wall or fix something. Not fancy, but at least I can scroll back and see what’s where without hunting for paper.
