What should a test-only quote for a building’s main backflow assembly include?
A quote for testing a building’s main backflow assembly can be hard to compare if it’s not clear where the test fee ends and any reporting or follow-up begins. Should the written quote spell out whether it includes the test, a copy of the results, and submission to the water provider or other authority if required?
I’d also want to know how a failed test or needed repair would be handled. Are repairs normally quoted separately and approved before work starts, or does the test fee sometimes include any follow-up? What wording has helped make these quotes easier to compare without assuming every area has the same filing rules?

For example, a quote could list the test and written results as the base fee, then state whether submission is included or separately priced if the local authority requires it. If the test fails, it could say that any repair will be described and priced in a separate estimate for approval before work begins. That makes the boundary between testing and repair clear without assuming every area has the same filing rules.
