What counts as a repeat clog after a drain clearing?

If a bathroom drain slows or clogs again soon after it’s been cleared, what follow-up terms do you consider fair before approving the work?

I’d want the quote to name the section being cleared and the method, then say whether a return visit is included and for how long. It should also explain what would make the same symptom a separate charge, such as a finding that points to a different blockage or a problem farther along the drain. How do plumbers usually draw that line without promising that a cleared drain can’t clog again?

I wouldn’t treat the same symptom by itself as proof that it’s a separate problem. I’d ask the plumber to explain what they found that changes the scope - such as locating the obstruction beyond the section they cleared - and give the added cost before doing that work. That keeps a repeat visit from becoming an automatic charge without turning the original clearing into a promise that the drain can’t slow again.

I’d favor including a no-charge assessment if the same symptom returns within the stated window, but not automatically promising a free repeat clearing. The assessment can establish whether the original issue remains or the scope has changed; any further work would still need a clear explanation and fresh cost approval.
