RE: How much weight should recycled glass carry in a bathroom sink choice?
I’d give more weight to avoiding chips than to everyday scratches: a chip can expose ceramic’s more porous body, and even a fill may remain visible. But I wouldn’t assume recycled glass is safer; its impact performance n...
RE: compost toilets are great until you actually build one
“Some level of smell management” isn’t necessarily unavoidable to the same degree. Separating urine from solids can reduce moisture substantially, which usually limits odor and makes the solids container easier to manage...
RE: When is it time to swap out old pipes?
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been told too. My place is about 30 years old and there’s definitely some crusty spots, but nothing wild. The green stuff freaked me out at first, but turns out it was just one section near a leaky...
RE: Best ways to prep your home for sudden flooding?
Yeah, pet hair is no joke - my dog sheds like crazy and I’m always finding fur in the weirdest places. I totally get the “expect the unexpected” thing. Wet vacs are a lifesaver, but I wish there was a magic fix for all t...
RE: Water pooling in basement - could it be a sneaky drain issue?
I get where you’re coming from, but I actually had the opposite experience with splash blocks. Maybe it’s just my yard, but once I swapped out the short ones for longer, wider ones, it helped a ton. Still, I agree - if t...
RE: How much would you pay to fix water damage from a burst pipe?
Totally get where you’re coming from. We had a minor leak under the kitchen sink last year and I tried fixing it myself to save some cash. Ended up missing a small patch of damp drywall, which turned into a bigger headac...
RE: anyone tried sustainable plumbing upgrades at home?
I hear you on the smart leak detectors - mine took three tries to set up, and I was about ready to give up. But it did catch a slow drip under the kitchen sink, so I guess it paid off in the end. As for eco showerheads, ...
RE: my shower's gone rogue and sprays everywhere but down
Yeah, I get what you mean about all those fancy settings. When we moved in, I thought the multi-spray head looked cool, but after a few months it started leaking out the side and spraying the ceiling. Total mess. Ended u...
RE: Battle Of The Blocked Sink: Which Magic Potion Actually Works?
I’ve only just started dealing with clogs myself, and honestly, pulling the trap apart was way less scary than I thought. I did end up with water everywhere, but at least it finally drained. Has anyone tried those enzyme...
RE: Handy shortcuts for finding plumbing info quick
Metal tags are a smart move. I tried the plastic ones too and they just peeled right off after a few months - humidity wins every time. I’ve started keeping a folder in my phone’s notes app with pics of shutoff valves an...
RE: Sink monster making weird noises and not grinding right
Wish I'd known this sooner... mine felt gritty, ignored it, and two weeks later it completely died mid-dinner cleanup. Lesson learned the hard way, lol. Good luck!
RE: need some advice on setting up a rain harvesting setup at home
I've thought about doubling up too, but honestly, it might just create more spots for debris to get stuck. My neighbor tried gutter guards over mesh screens and ended up with a mini compost pile forming on top - especial...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
Mine's been outside for about two years now, and it's still holding up okay...but now you've got me wondering if I should've covered it better. Do you think a simple plastic cover would be enough, or is something sturdie...
RE: Water pressure woes - anyone else dealt with this?
Had something similar happen when I first moved in, but it wasn't as simple as yours. Checked all the easy stuff - showerheads, aerators, valves - and nothing changed. Ended up being a super old pressure regulator outsid...
