RE: How often is a sewer camera inspection worthwhile without symptoms?
A clear, accessible cleanout and intact cap are useful for practical access if service is needed, but they don’t show whether the pipe itself is sound. I’d treat that check as good readiness, not as a reason to advance o...
RE: Keeping your water heater running longer without breaking the bank
Honestly, I’ve installed a few of those powered rods for customers who were tired of the “wrench-wrestling” routine. They do seem to slow down the tank corrosion, especially in houses with really bad water, but I wouldn’...
RE: my shower's gone rogue and sprays everywhere but down
You’re right about the vinegar trick - people jump to buying new heads or washers way too fast. Did you actually take the head off and soak it, or just try to run vinegar through while it was still attached? I’ve seen fo...
RE: Finally won the battle against invading tree roots
Concrete’s tough, but roots and bamboo are tougher. I’ve seen tree roots bust through old sewer lines that were supposed to last forever, so I’m not surprised they found a way around your curb. Honestly, digging them out...
RE: anyone tried sustainable plumbing upgrades at home?
PEX is a game changer for tight spaces, no doubt. I’ve spent too many hours hunched over with a torch, trying not to set insulation on fire or scorch a joist. PEX just snakes through those awkward spots - makes the job w...
RE: When your living room is a sauna but your bedroom's an igloo
I’ve seen way too many folks blame their thermostat or windows when it’s actually the ductwork causing all the trouble. Had a job last month where the bedroom was freezing and the living room felt like a sauna - turns ou...
RE: Choosing between in-kitchen and underground grease traps - what would you do?
Honestly, I’ve seen both setups go sideways for different reasons. Underground ones are out of sight, but when something goes wrong, it’s usually a big deal and not cheap to fix. In-kitchen traps are way easier to check,...
RE: When the Toilet Floods at Midnight: My DIY Save
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a job where someone thought they needed to rip up half the bathroom, when it was just a bad wax ring or a bolt that worked itself loose over time. I get why folks want to av...
RE: Battle Of The Blocked Sink: Which Magic Potion Actually Works?
Honestly, enzyme cleaners are fine for maintenance, but if you’re already clogged, they’re not gonna work miracles. If you’re nervous about tools, try a wet/dry vac before chemicals - less risk to your pipes, and you won...
RE: Keeping Pipes Safe and My Sanity Intact
Pipe wrap tape’s solid, but honestly, I’ve seen folks slap it on and call it a day, then wonder why they’re mopping up after a hard freeze. Did you layer it with insulation or just use tape? I’ve had better luck combinin...
