RE: Half flush never seems to work right - am I missing something?
Half Flushes: Worth the Hassle or Just a Gimmick? I hear you on the hard water - sometimes it feels like the toilet’s fighting back, right? Half flushes are supposed to save water, but if you’re flushing twice every tim...
RE: Half flush never seems to work right - am I missing something?
That’s spot on - people jump to replacing the flush valve or flapper, but mineral buildup is way more common than most think. Did you check if water’s coming out evenly around the rim when you flush? Sometimes those jets...
RE: Why does swapping out a busted ice maker cost so much?
Turning off the main water isn’t overkill at all, honestly. If you’ve ever had one of those plastic lines pop loose or crack, you know that a little leak can turn into a disaster in minutes. Here’s my quick checklist: pu...
RE: Eco-Friendly Plumbing Choices: What’s Actually Worth It?
That rodent issue with PEX is no joke. I’ve seen a crawlspace where mice turned the stuff into Swiss cheese - water everywhere, total mess. If you’re set on PEX, here’s what I do: run it inside conduit or at least wrap i...
RE: Water pooling in basement - could it be a sneaky drain issue?
Plastic army men and Barbie shoes - yep, seen it all. You’d be surprised how often toys end up being the culprit behind slow drains or worse, basement flooding. Mesh covers are only as good as the last time someone check...

RE: Getting That Stubborn Dishwasher Working Again Without Calling a Repair Guy
Mixing vinegar and baking soda together is one of those things that sounds clever but, yeah, they mostly neutralize each other. You’re right to be cautious about the seals too - seen a few folks end up with leaks after r...
RE: Finally got my bathroom reno right for everyone to use comfortably
Actually, plumbing issues can sometimes be way trickier than they first appear. Had one job where a minor leak turned into replacing half the subfloor...so don't underestimate those "small" surprises behind drywall. Bett...
RE: Finally won the battle against invading tree roots
Yeah, exactly. Fabric's more of a temporary fix than anything. Good call on digging in the plastic barrier - sounds like you nailed it with that approach. Tree roots are relentless...glad you got ahead of them.
RE: need some advice on plumbing stuff for DIY bathroom fix-up
Mirrors are definitely underrated tools - good catch on that drip, those tiny leaks can cause big headaches later. For drying reusable cloths, here's what works well for me: First, rinse them thoroughly in hot water to ...
RE: stuck between Moen and Delta faucets for kitchen upgrade
I've installed and repaired plenty of both Moen and Delta faucets, and honestly, they're both solid choices. Here's how I'd break it down: Moen is usually the go-to if you're after simple reliability. They're built stur...
