RE: Home Plumbing Checkup: DIY or Hire a Pro?
For a homeowner with no particular symptom, a quick look at accessible pipes and the areas around sinks, toilets, and appliances could catch obvious moisture or corrosion without spending anything. I wouldn’t treat a cle...
RE: how long do these backflow thingies usually last?
A rebuild isn’t automatically just delaying replacement. It can be the lower-cost choice when the failed parts are serviceable, but the deciding point is whether the device passes its required test after the repair. If t...
RE: Plumbing tips that change with the seasons
Honestly, that’s probably smarter than relying on the app notifications. I’ve missed those before when my phone was on silent. I get what you mean about the peace of mind - after a pipe burst in my crawlspace last winter...
RE: How much did you pay to fix your fridge's ice maker?
I get where you’re coming from, but I’ll admit I’m still on the fence about swapping out my saddle valve. I know they’re not ideal, but I just can’t justify the extra cost unless there’s a problem. That said, I did have ...
RE: Battle Of The Blocked Sink: Which Magic Potion Actually Works?
I’m with you on the “just pull it out by hand” approach, as gross as it is. I’ve tried every so-called miracle solution out there - enzymes, baking soda and vinegar, even those expensive foaming drain cleaners. Enzymes a...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
I get the appeal of cardboard tags and a Sharpie - definitely cheap and you can write as much as you want. But honestly, I’ve had those things fall off or get soggy way too many times, especially in the basement where it...
RE: Need some advice on choosing new plumbing fixtures
I’ve noticed that greenish tint on some oil-rubbed bronze too, but honestly, it’s usually the cheaper stuff or when the finish is just painted on instead of actually rubbed. In my last place, the higher-end bronze held u...
RE: my shower's gone rogue and sprays everywhere but down
Swapping out just the showerhead is usually my go-to, honestly. Messing with the arm feels like overkill unless there’s a leak at the joint or something’s really corroded. I’ve had a couple of those cheap plastic heads c...
RE: ever wondered how faucets actually work?
Totally agree - sometimes I think the “premium” models are just over-engineered for the sake of it. I’d rather have something simple I can fix myself than a fancy faucet that needs a special tool or, worse, a plumber. Ha...
RE: Plumbing pros weigh in: new app promises faster fixes and fewer headaches
I get what you’re saying about relying too much on tech. I installed one of those smart valves last year, and honestly, it’s set off more false alarms than actual issues. Couldn’t agree more. I still do a quick walk-thr...
RE: anyone tried sustainable plumbing upgrades at home?
I've looked into greywater recycling setups myself, and honestly, they're not necessarily easier to manage day-to-day. Sure, reed beds have their quirks - mosquitoes, drainage issues, etc. - but greywater systems come wi...
RE: Cracked Sink Dilemma: DIY Kit or Professional Fix?
I've been following this thread closely because I'm facing a similar issue with a cracked sink in our guest bathroom. I was initially leaning toward the DIY epoxy kits because, well... budget. But after reading your expe...
